United States Department of Veterans Affairs

Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center

Billing and Insurance

After your visit or hospital stay, you may be billed for a number of copayments.  We can also file claims with your insurance.

Copayments

The US Department of Veterans Affairs has established guidelines for veterans and their copayments. Copayments may be charged for the following services —

Any copayments due should be paid upon checking out of the medical center. Copayments may be made at the Agent Cashier window, on the first floor of the lobby.  Visa, Mastercard, Discovery and American Express are accepted.  You may also make your payment by telephone by calling (843) 789-7452 or 1-888-258-2772.

Veterans who do not make their copayments upon checking out will receive a bill at their address of record within 30 days after their stay or appointment.

If you have any questions about your copay balance, please contact our Call Center at 1-866-258-2772.

Other Health Insurance

The Department of Veterans Affairs now bills private health insurance companies for care received by their enrollees. You should bring your insurance card with you for your appointment and present it during the check-in process. What's in it for me?

Medicare/Medicaid

Current laws do not provide for the The Department of Veterans Affairs to bill Medicare or Medicaid for services provided.  We must obtain information regarding you Medicare eleigibilty since this is needed for Medicare supplemental insurance policies.  If you have supplemental Medicare insurance, that health plan may be billed.  This billing will not increase your insurance premiums.
