The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center announces its partnership with the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) and The Joint Commission in the South Carolina Safe Care Commitment, a multi-year engagement aimed at moving health care toward the same highly reliable performance seen in industries such as aviation and nuclear power.

Charleston VAMC is the only VA in the nation participating in a state-wide collaboration of this type with The Joint Commission.  A total of twenty hospitals are participating in the South Carolina Safe Care Commitment.  This initiative will focus on strengthening hospitals’ leadership commitment and enhancing the culture of safety within each participating hospital to achieve the highest level of safe, reliable patient care.

“Although we consistently demonstrate the highest quality of healthcare, meeting 100 percent of our clinical measures in 2012, we are continually looking for innovative ways to improve care and safety for our Veteran patients,” said Carolyn L. Adams Director, Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.  “This opportunity allows us to mutually share best practices among the medical community resulting in a higher standard of quality health care and safety for our Nation’s heroes and all patient groups.”
