Director Named VHA Mentor of the Year
Ms. Carolyn Adams, Director of the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, Charleston, was selected as the 2012 VHA’s Certified Mentor of the Year.
Adams is certified at the Fellow level and holds a Masters of Allied Health Education from Eastern Kentucky University and is a graduate from the original 1st Executive Career Field (ECF) class.
Adams is a member of the Senior Executive Service and the American College of Health Care Executives.
Along with being recognized as VHA Mentor of the Year, she was also recognized as Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Consumer Science, Alumni of the Year for 2008 and is an Advisory Board Member of the Health Informatics Professional Science Master’s Program of the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
“I have experienced first-hand the importance of having strong mentors in my career. It is a great privilege to help develop the next generation of leadership who will carry forward the VA mission of caring for our nation’s heroes,” said Adams.
VHA hosts the largest cadres of certified coaches and mentors in any organization. The program has grown exponentially since its initial roll out in January 2007 and those associated with the program pride themselves on integrating the International Coaching Federation (ICF) coaching competencies into the practices of the GROW model.
There are three levels of certification, each building upon the prior. To date the program has grown to 4,200 Certified Mentors.
