2012 Large Employer of the Year
Matthew McGee, who is visually impaired, joined the Charleston VAMC team through our partnership with S.C. Commission for the Blind.
“We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to hiring individuals with disabilities as part of our staff,” said Charleston VA Medical Center Acting Director Scott Isaacks. “The abilities they bring to our team are directly benefiting our Veterans.”
The Charleston VA, which was nominated by the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation office, will now be considered for the Governor’s Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities award. In October 2011, the Charleston VA was also named Employer of the Year by the South Carolina Commission for the Blind.
The Charleston VA team works closely with such organizations as Vocational Rehabilitation and the Commission for the Blind providing updates on available positions to candidates with disabilities, and training employment counselors on Schedule A hiring authority and how to assist clients with online applications.
