Flu Shots now available

Flu Shots now available

Don't forget to get your flu shot this season!

Thursday, October 10, 2013

It’s that time of year again to start thinking about protecting you, your family and our Veterans from the flu by getting vaccinated.  The flu shot is now available for employees and Veteran patients.

Each one of us may contract the influenza virus, but getting immunized at the beginning of flu season will normally lessen symptoms and promote faster recovery.  This also means that you will be less likely to spread the virus if you are a carrier.

“Influenza vaccine is maximally protective beginning two to four weeks after immunization.  Waiting until influenza arrives in the community to get vaccinated risks missing out on the benefits of the vaccine and places employees, their coworkers and our Veterans at increased risk of influenza,” said Preston Church, MD, Hospital Epidemiologist.

Veteran patients can see their primary care provider to obtain their free flu shot. IMPORTANT: If you have already had your flu shot please let your primary care clinician know.

Staff may walk into Employee Health from 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday, or contact the Patient Care Coordinator during off tours and weekends.

Typically flu season starts September 1 and runs through the end of March, but may last longer depending on the severity of the season.
