More than 1,990 homeless and persons in need, including over 560 Veterans, came seeking medical care, shelter, clothing, job assistance and more at the 12th annual Stand Down Against Homelessness in North Charleston Oct. 27 and 28. The event, which is designed to care for homeless Veterans, saw approximately 40 new Veterans enrolled with VA. The event is sponsored by Charleston VAMC and Goodwill Industries.

"Most homeless people will not self-identify as Veterans," explained Stand Down Chairman Hugh Myrick, MD. "We have to go out and find them, and thanks to our partnership with Goodwill and all the volunteers that support us we can do just that."

Over 250 volunteers and VA staff served at the event. Volunteers came from area DoD and other organizations.
