Visitor Information

The Charleston VAMC understands the importance of visits from loved ones to our patients. We welcome care partners and friends on most patient units at any time. Children must be supervised by an adult and cannot be left unattended. Please review our Visiting Hours and Policies for more information.


The Charleston VAMC Police Service provides 24-hour patrols of the facility and parking lots. Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses to the VA Police while on the facility grounds as soon as possible.

VA Police Service is located in Room B197 on the first floor. To reach the VA Police, please call 843-789-7251. For an emergency within the hospital, dial 7911. To reach the Charleston Police Department, dial 911.

Because the VA Medical Center is federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search. In addition, no weapons, alcohol, or illegal drugs are permitted. You will be treated with dignity, compassion and respect as an individual regardless of your age, race, color, creed, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Lost and Found

Lost and Found is located in Room A148 on the first floor near the main elevators. You may contact them at (843) 789-7230.


A nondenominational chapel is located on the first floor in Room A144. Protestant Worship Services are held Sundays, 9:30-10:00 a.m. in the chapel with communion offered the fourth Sunday of each month. Services are also held Wednesdays, 10:30 - 11:00 a.m., in the dining room of the Nursing Home Care Unit, located on the fourth floor in Room A401. Communion is offered on the first Wednesday of each month.

A prayer room, located next to the chapel, is also available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Veterans and their family members are welcomed. Please contact the Chaplain Service at (843) 789-7235 for additional information or to speak with one of our Chaplains.
